GREG KNIGHT
CTO of Photovoltaics
Greg Knight has 20 years of experience in the photovoltaic (PV), silicon carbide, electric vehicle (EV) and power electronics markets in both leadership positions and as a strategic consultant. He is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Hardinge, Inc., a leader precision grinding, turning and milling equipment.
Prior to his current role, he served as a President and Chief Executive Officer of GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT), a producer of silicon carbide crystal materials for rapidly expanding markets such as EV, PV and power electronics. As CEO, Mr. Knight successfully pivoted the company from capital equipment to manufacturing advanced materials focused on silicon carbide. GTAT was acquired by Onsemi in October 2021 for $415 mm in cash.
Mr. Knights’s leadership positions include: Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Exawatt, which provides strategic consulting for the solar PV, EV, power electronics, high-purity quartz and lithium-ion battery markets; President of PV Tech Group, a provider of a range of operations and strategic planning services to the PV industry; and Chief Technology Officer for Equity Solar, a provider of silicon surface chemistries intended to increase PV cell efficiency.
Mr. Knight began his PV career as Manufacturing Director, Solar Cell Fabrication, at Schott Solar, a manufacturer of components for solar power systems. He has served on multiple Board of Directors of both private and public companies, and he currently serves on the board of Hardinge, a multi-national machine tool builder, and Ideal Power (NASDAQ: IPWR), a pioneer in the development of highly efficient bi-directional power switches. Mr. Knight served five years in the U.S. Navy as Chemistry / Radiological Controls Officer and holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Cornell University and a formal nuclear engineering education from the Naval Nuclear Power School.
